how to: lavender simple syrup

For as long as I can remember, lavender has been one of my favorite scents. It's soothing, calming, and brings me back to a nostalgic memory from visiting a lavender farm on the coast of Washington back in 2015. I keep a small mesh bag of lavender on my nightstand to crush between my fingers and smell right before I go to bed- I believe it has a healing energy to promote a deep sleep and happy dreams. Perhaps, my version of a small prayer before sleeping and allowing my mind to rest for the next 10 hours. The smell is intoxicating, so how does it taste?

Honestly, just like it smells great, it tastes great too. I keep a bag of lavender blooms in my kitchen for many purposes- lavender cupcakes/muffins, a top garnish on baked pastries, mixing with DIY face masks, or making lavender simple syrup for lavender lattes. There was a past version of Ivory that could afford to purchase an espresso machine at one point in time, which may be the wisest investment I made for myself (considering how much coffee I have bought from local shops in my lifetime). I'm proud of that past version of Ivory. Present Ivory appreciates it. 

So let's get to it! Lavender lattes are delicious and the syrup is actually incredibly easy to make!


HOW TO MAKE LAVENDER SIMPLE SYRUP:

-1 cup of water
-1 cup of white sugar
-1 tablespoon of lavender blossoms

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil while stirring occasionally until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let steep for 30ish minutes. Strain into a cute motha fuckin' jar or container of some kind and enjoy the fuck out of your new lavender simple syrup.


This syrup can be used in coffee drinks, cocktails, tea, lemonade, or anything you want to add a little sweetness and healing plant power to. I gifted some to my neighbor who lives above me, we both are starting gardens in our backyard! I hope you enjoy your lavender simple syrup as much as I do.
